Ms. Cruz is a Senior Counsel with Schumann Arevalo, LLP, where her practice focuses on insurance and general liability defense, often involving catastrophic injury and complex multi-party litigation.
Ms. Cruz earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of California, Berkeley and her Juris Doctorate at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
Ms. Cruz began her legal career in Chicago, Illinois, where she represented clients in catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and civil rights litigation. Representative cases include a trial resulting in a $2.6 million jury award in favor of her injured client.
Ms. Cruz has worked as outside defense counsel on a broad spectrum of litigation matters, including personal injury, class action, privacy, labor and employment, professional liability, and mass and toxic tort matters.
Before joining Schumann Arevalo, Ms. Cruz served as Managing Trial Attorney and Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council member for the national trial division of a Fortune 100 insurance company. In 2020, Ms. Cruz successfully defended an admitted liability case wherein the jury returned a unanimous verdict for her client.
Ms. Cruz has been actively involved in DEI efforts since law school, where she was a president of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. Ms. Cruz is a longstanding member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) and served as president and board member of the Asian American Bar Association of Chicago. Ms. Cruz often volunteers as a judge of the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition, in which she competed and won “Best Brief” during law school.
